"He's big, he's got really good speed," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "Like a lot of these guys, he's trying to learn a lot of stuff in a short period of time, but he's got some physical skills that we can work with."

This was said about a recent guy who will add depth to the Lions defensive backfield.

Not just Schwartz...it's the lapdog beat writers who make praise w/o knowing anything. This is what was said by a Lion beat writer about Mayhew referencing the same player...

"The mark of an excellent General Manager in pro football is one who can mine the back roads of scouting, and find those golden nuggets that the other teams have passed on"

This hype was about a guy who was to challenge Spievey because competition is good. This hype was about Alonzo Lawrence back in May but here in June, Lawrence was released.

This offseason hype about Green, Greenwood, Whitehead, etc. etc. is just that. Hype. I just ready where the big hyped FB, Bryant, may be fighting for a job and not the Lions version of Kuhn. It seems that he doesn't catch the ball as well with NFL speed coming at him.

It's all hype until it is proven against NFL competition. Some have a better resume and the chances are better that they can make the transition but for others, often lower round picks, particulary from small schools, the chances are far less. Putting your faith on those odds leads to teams who give up 600 yards to a team with a backup QB playing and blowing a chance to steer clear of the Saints.
