My biggest anxiety about the season
Okay, call me a homer or whatever the hell you want but I see most of the needles pointing up for Green Bay this season.
However, there is one important piece of the puzzle that has me feeling uneasy: Clay Matthews. He's still practicing with a wrap on his thumb and even in his and MM's press conferences, they always hedge their bets.
I get the feeling he's not 100%... and may never be 100% again. Understandably... it was a nasty injury and it happened twice.
A Packer defense without a healthy Matthews will be ordinary at best.

Maybe an amputation is the answer. No thumb is sometimes better than one.

His thumb will never be the same, Duck...that's just the reality of the situation. Fingers? No big deal...but the thumb is truly one of the last things you want to fuck up. It's an amazing tool with capabilities of no other joint in the body. Injuries to it of the nature Clay suffered will leave that thumb forever susceptible to ongoing reinjury--and yeah--I know... I sat out my usual fun-filled winter last year because of a reinjury to a thumb that never made it back more than about 70% from being crushed when I was a kid...
That being said--it won't stop his motor...and his motor is what makes Clay special. He won't be grabbing a handful of jersey and pulling QB's the turf much anymore but the overall impact of the thumb on his play will no no more than nominal as long as he doesn't reinjure it yet again...

You're right about his motor being his most valued asset. I just think that a healthy thumb would benefit any athlete in just about any situation. Try to imagine your day without one. Oh wait, I guess you can.
