Jets Reportedly Will Trade Darrelle Revis, 49ers and Falcons Among Top Suitors

It would appear that it's no longer a matter of whether Darrelle Revis will get traded, but rather a matter of when the New York Jets superstar will be moved.

From Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:

Two or three "legitimate buyers" are prepared to make a trade for perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis when free agency and the trading period begin on March 12, the Daily News has learned.

The NFC champion 49ers, who will have 12 tradeable picks in next month's draft and a glaring need for a top cornerback, are interested in trading for Revis sooner rather than later, according to sources. The Falcons, who lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, are also considered a team that could emerge as a player in the Revis sweepstakes.

'"He's gone," said a source familiar with the situation (per Mehta). "This is happening. They're moving him. They can't keep him. They're rebuilding. They're starting fresh."'

Owner Woody Johnson reportedly never intended on signing Revis to an extension and has instructed the front office to deal him. Mehta notes that the Jets would be wise to make a deal sooner rather than later before teams can fill out corner needs through free agency and the draft.

The San Francisco 49ers are a logical choice, seeing as they have 15 picks this year, including Nos. 31 and 34, and a major need at cornerback.

But the Atlanta Falcons have also shown in the past that they aren't afraid to pay a steep price to land a player they think will push them over the top.

Remember, at the 2011 draft, the Falcons gave up five draft picks (Nos. 27, 59 and 124 in 2011 and first- and fourth-round picks in 2012) to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the No. 6 pick to draft wide receiver Julio Jones.


For the Jets, trading Revis makes far more sense than keeping him. After a disastrous 2012 season that highlighted all of the holes on the roster, it's obvious that it's time to rebuild. Receiving a bounty in exchange for Revis would certainly expedite that process.

It certainly sounds as though the ACL tear Revis suffered last year isn't going to discourage teams from making a move for him. After all, he is the game's top corner when he's healthy, even if Richard Sherman disagrees.

Don't be surprised if Revis is moved before March 12, the start of free agency and the trading period. Revis Island won't be found in New York next season.

Detroit and Tampa Bay are also reportedly are will to make a trade for Revis. Detroit have the 5th pick 1st rd, and Tampa have the 13th pick in the 1st Rd. Don't really think Detroit will trade their 1st pick. But Tampa really needs help at Defense of backs. So that would be a great trades for the Jets. Even if the Jets only get that one pick I hope they would get the 13th pick and Tampa 2nd Rd, pick. Can't wait till next tuesday.

A trades with Tampa Bay could happens as soon as next week Jets would get Tampa 13th pick overall. I would like to see the jets used that on RB, Eddie Lacy, or WR's Keenan Allen or Tavon Austin, OG Chance Warmack OR
