The story has been mostly consistent throughout the season relative to the offensive gameplan going into that week's game: (A) It hasn't been particularly effective...and (B) McCarthy has taken far too long to accept that fact in making adjustments...
The down-the-field passing game is exciting and last season made for an offense that produced among the most prolific numbers in the history of the NFL. However--just because it generally worked last year doesn't mean it's the way to go forever. Teams pour over film and adjust...and if you don't correspondingly proactively evolve your game, or at the fucking least--adjust to their adjustments--then you're yesterday's news...wondering why no one has a hard-on anymore over your spiffy horse/buggy...
McCarthy needs to learn to default to simply taking what the D is giving you in the course of surveying mismatches in alignments/scheme that he can readily exploit for the deep gash... This shit isn't really that difficult when you have the horses on O that McCarthy enjoys...
It's interesting that most of humanity fails not from strategy--but from execution. McCarthy is failing this season for the opposite reason. People can superficially blame the O-line, etc for all the Pack's issues this season...but a deeper understanding reveals that consistently poor strategic game preparation and game management decisions by the coaching staff has been the primary downfall... The time has come for somebody the slap the fat boy up just above the ear line... That's the GM's job. Unfortunately, that isn't one of our GM's strengths...

Good points, HD. As you know, I've been a supporter of both TT and MM for quite a while, and while I still am, I cannot ignore the legitimate criticisms of them. Fans grousing as usual after a loss is one thing, but a detailed analysis by an informed writer using game film to back up his points is something else.
It's abundantly clear that MM has not called plays or planned games as well as he has in the past and I agree with you that his primary shortcoming is his inability to make adjustments when it's obvious some are needed.
MM is a system guy and he's convinced his system will eventually prevail against anyone. Ironically the success of the 2010 season and his "next man up" credo further strengthened his notion that the parts were interchangeable in his wonderful machine. Heck his team continued to win without Matthews and play well without Rodgers. Where's the problem? Obviously, in his mind, the system works just fine.
Diminishing stats and a simple eyeball test by most fans tell a different story, but MM is a stubborn man.
There are some signs now that he's finally getting it. In his press conference he has acknowledged that he's made errors in his play calling and one thing in particular creates anxiety for him: he is concerned about the pressure on his QB. He understands that Rodgers is the guy who makes everything tick and that if his dumb ass play calls for deep passes get him killed, he and his team are fucked.
We'll see if it sinks in.
The good news is he does have buy in from his players and he coaches best when his back is to the wall, so at least we have that working positively for us as we approach the final quarter of the season.

Brilliantly astute. Sounds like Lombardi preaching but without the hollering. Sometimes it worked better when the QB just called all the plays and not just the audibles.Tarkenton, Starr, Unitas.

It is pretty simple right now.......Packers offense has become much too predictable........MM did fine surprising the league with his new use of Cobb (in the backfield) but that is old news now. MM needs to completely change the offensive set to again confuse the defensive coordinator. First and foremost I think we need a play early in the game whereby a version of the Packers sweep is run with Rodgers out as a pulling guard similar to what we used to see Favre do. That should loosen up the defense. Have Rodgers take down Jared Allen on a reverse sweep play.
