The [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weren't about to let LeGarrette Blount out of town without him signing a contract.
A week after Maurice Jones-Drew left unsigned following a two-day visit to Pittsburgh, the Steelers signed Blount — the last remaining proven running back available in free agency — to a two-year contract Friday.
Blount, whose value increased once Jones-Drew agreed to a contract with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night, reached the deal after taking a physical, going on a tour of the Steelers' complex and meeting with coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Signing Blount, a former 1,000-yard back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, gives the Steelers an effective power runner to back up starter Le'Veon Bell. The Steelers started 0-4 last season in part because they had no running game with Bell injured and out for the first three games.
The 250-pound Blount has 2,711 yards rushing in four seasons with the Bucs and New England Patriots. After rushing for 1,007 yards as an undrafted rookie out of Oregon in 2010, he fell out of favor two seasons later after Greg Schiano became the Bucs coach and was traded to New England last year.
Blount ran for 772 yards with New England, 1 yard behind team leader Stevan Ridley, and had two standout games, running for 189 yards and two touchdowns against Buffalo to end the season and 166 yards and four touchdowns against the Colts in a divisional playoff game. The four TDs were the second most in an NFL playoff game.
Blount averaged 5 yards per carry last season.
Blount missed most of his 2009 senior season at Oregon following a well-publicized incident in which he threw a punch at a Boise State player. With Tampa Bay, he was fined for being late to team meetings, apparently one reason he fell behind Doug Martin on the depth chart.
Blount is one of five Steelers additions in free agency, joining safety Mike Mitchell, wide receiver Lance Moore, linebacker Arthur Moats and defensive lineman Cam Thomas.

Mummy won't be happy until Bill Cowher returns as coach and names Jerome Bettis his starting RB. Then he might start a smile. Now if Brutha Barry raises the amount of monthly food-stamps.... then he would be happy.diehardsteersfan wrote:RLON39 wrote:Do you think mummy is finally happy?
