Good for him! I'm glad that he let go of being an elite competitor and can now move on. Who knows... maybe coaching is in his future. No doubt he has the fire for it.wyckedheart8 wrote:About an hour ago espn has announced.

Re: WARD ANNOUNCED RETIREMENT
Well, at least his last catch was against the Browns #1000 and that is always a mile marker, he may have got his 1000th against the Browns and that he can brag upon, but Browns fans can at least say it was a 3 yard loss,

Cmon. Hines was never a cheap shot artist. He played the game with passion and played whistle-to-whistle. Once the play was over, he walked away with a smile.

Yea, there was alot of talk about this poll when it came out. Hines Ward is not a dirty player. A dirty player hits after the play is over and that was never Hines. Not only that but on that same poll had Polamalu at #9.
Hines simply was choosen #1 on that list because he was one of the most feared and hated because he gave as good as he got and never let anyone intimidate him.

I'm no Steelers fan, but I always liked the way Ward played.
Defenders were scared of him, both of getting burned in coverage, and getting knocked on their asses..

It's always nice to see a player go for the team colors and not the color green. I'm sure that if he wanted he could have taken the mercenary route and found a team willing to pay him.
In all the games I've seen him play, against the Pats and some of the other teams, I can't remember seeing him doing anything that I would call dirty.

It was said, in Baltimore.... Ed Reed also shed tears... those of joy. Knowing he will no longer have to worry about getting "jacked" by Hines.RLON39 wrote:I'll never forget you Hines. when you said you'd never wear any other colors, a tear came to my eye.

That was absolutely beautiful. There is a guy who knew how to play the game.

Re: WARD ANNOUNCED RETIREMENT
How many receivers have a rule named after them? Because they were too rough on those poor LB's and DB's. LOL I do find it a bit comical that the people who complain of him are fans of teams who WR's won't catch across the middle and won't block. When put the question... none say they wouldn't have wanted him on their team.DiehardSteelersfan wrote:foghorn wrote:It was said, in Baltimore.... Ed Reed also shed tears... those of joy.
