Former Steelers players Ward, Farrior free to sign elsewhere

Wide receiver Hines Ward and linebacker James Farrior are among the former Steelers who can sign with another team before next Tuesday.
Ward and Farrior, along with defensive end Aaron Smith and guard Chris Kemoeatu, are eligible to sign prior to the start of free agency because they have enough experience to qualify as vested veterans.
The four were all officially released from the Steelers on Friday.
Ward and Farrior are hoping to continue their career elsewhere, and Kemoeatu will sign with another team.
Smith, who had been with the Steelers since 1999, is expected to retire after suffering four season-ending injuries in the past five years.
Ward, Farrior and Smith, three of the most accomplished players in Steelers history, were let go in a salary purge.
The Steelers are under the salary cap, though they are still projecting what the 2012 spending limit will be because it hasn't been officially released by the NFL
