Two days after the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped Hines Ward after 14 seasons, the team also cut linebacker James Farrior, a veteran of two Super Bowl teams.

Farrior's agent, Ralph Cindrich, unhappily tweeted the news Friday: "James Farrior has been a rock for the Steelers but the Turk takes no prisoners - he's gone."

Farrior, 37, was set to make $2.8 million in 2012, the final year of a five-year deal he signed in 2008. He played five years with the Jets, and had been a Steeler since 2002. The two-time All Pro was a member of the Super Bowl XL and XLIII championship teams.

The club has until Monday afternoon to use its franchise tag and has spent the week clearing salary cap space.
