New York Jets: The Flying Lawnmower
Somewhat obscure and yet completely embarrassing is the best way to explain the flying lawnmower incident for the New York Jets.

As part of the halftime show during a 1979 contest between the Jets and New England Patriots was a flying lawnmower exhibition.

The blade of this 40-pound contraption flew up into the stands and struck two fans.

One of those fans went on to die six days later.

The fact that this incident is so often forgotten is astonishing, but so is the fact that it ever even happened to begin with.http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/354/210/Lawnmower1_display_image.jpg?1340694812

I remember it well, I was there. It wasn't the blade, it was the whole lawnmower. At first in the stands people were laughing at the stupid thing crashing until we realized it was serious as medics and stretchers rushed to the area where the crash occurred. We didn't know how serious the injuries were until listening to the radio on the way home.
