Probably would have failed on the 31 Wedge play too. Good read.

Nail, meet hammer Empty Soft Crap

Post by ffaralli Mon Jan 21, 2013 8:07 am

Guys,

OK, we don't have anyone on D that strikes terror into the opposing offenses heart.

But McGinn is going overboard on this soft crap. The point is to be better and smarter.

The great 49er teams that won all those SuperBowls, people thought were soft (with exception of Ronnie Lott).

Its the style of play. Usually a passing offense, rightfully or not is considered soft.

If we ran the ball better and more, it would change the perception quite a bit.

Good point FF. But no matter what you still have to dominate the line of scrimmage from both sides of the ball.......Packers were genreally incapable of both.......thus an 11-5 record and a shit game against the Niners at The Stick.

"Charles Woodson: Wants to keep playing but there's little or no reason for the Packers to keep him. The Packers would be out of their minds to pay Woodson the $10M he's due in 2013 and, even if he would consider a pay cut, the team needs to get better at safety. At this stage, Woodson can't cover outside and struggles covering inside. His undisciplined, freelancing style of play continued to compromise the integrity of the defense and influenced younger teammates negatively. Allowed seven plays of 20 yards or more even though he played just 49.8% of the downs. Had a disappointing season as a pressure player, forced just two take-aways and finished last among eight DBs in passes broken up per snap (one every 101.8 ). Grade: C."

Don't let HD see this -he'll go postal on McGinn. Cool

Dominating or taking enough of the line of scrimmage is something we may have done with the average teams in the league. But against the 9ers who has? NY, Vikings, Seattle? The Ravens are one team that could stand a chance at the line of scrimmage with the 9ers. Not sure the rest of their team stacks up.

The Falcons could have had that game yesterday even if the 9ers were pushing them. Fumbling a shotgun snap inside the opponents' 30 by a veteran QB is inexcusable. And when you have Akers giving you back 3 points you have to take it. Two personal foul penalties by veteran defensive players to keep the 9ers drives going are also abominable. Add home field advantage to that and it should have been a win.

At least we can say that Ross is a rookie and rookies will make crucial mistakes. Falcons should have taken a timeout when Matty Ice got drilled. Instead they called a roll out to the right which plays into the 9ers strength and the ailing QB was not about to get it over the LB to a covered receiver. Stick with what got you there and spread the defense and look for Gonzalez for first down or TD. They eliminated going to Tony right at the snap.

The old adage of protecting the football and possessing the football stood true as to which team won.

Good shit... all of you. Occasionally a really good football discussion erupts between Thor-bashing and PFKIA's little cricket dances.

I think that what we're mostly talking about here when we talk about toughness is the line play. You can have "finesse" skill players (in fact you have to to some extent), but if your line is consistently rocking the other from their side of the ball... that's a tough team.

It also speaks to the old adage and philosophy that you build your team from the trenches out.

We don't have that in Green Bay. I would love to see TT bring in more beef to both lines.

Nail, meet hammer Empty Remember this

Post by ffaralli Mon Jan 21, 2013 2:31 pm

While everyone is talking about the 49ers, please remember that they have been dog shit for so long, they were getting the high round picks, while we are stuck drafting 25th on back.....

They have been collecting blue-chippers, no doubt about that. See below and note the draft positions.

Think that might have something to do with it?

Lets us keep our eye on the ball. We need to run the ball better and we need another behemoth like Raji, Pickett, or Howard Greeen...these big guys cannot play 70 snaps a game.

Worthy and Daniels (really like this kid) are more DE types in the 3-4.

I think having Johnny Jolly would have helped against a team like the 49ers, he was a very physical player on that line.

And to be honest, after watching the games this weekend, I am not sure if we have the coaching staff. Case in point, neither NE or ATL scored in the 2nd half. Wow, what an adjustment SF and BAL made. Not sure we could do that.

And I don't only mean Capers, not sure about MM either, to be honest.

With you all the way FF. Now on the Niners draft picks.......most of these guys are actually playing whereas many Packers high draft picks (Bulaga, Sherrod, our supposed version of SF's LB Willis --? LB Perry, are nursing injuries. It's hard to win in this league when you are not playing. And an aging center that can't run block.....why is he even on the team? Running backs that really belong in the Canadian Football League or the Arena League.......no real tight ends.......there you have it. Combine that with an intellectually challenged coaching staff and people like Brad Jones, Frank Zombo and Erik Walden expected to play NFL football level linebacker........you start to involuntarily initiate vomiting reflexes, cold sweats......just an overall lousy attitude. When the word "Donatell" starts sounding refreshing whoa slow down there feller' LOL LOL. We have so many holes to fill that the best TT can do is to bow down to free agency somehow someway. Aaron Rodgers can't do it alone. Tackling........amazing we are talking about the inability to tackle at the professional level. Some of these guys are incapable of tackling. How we even won the North division is perplexing as well. Next year's schedule is brutal.

But they weren't. Yeah, their offenses were great, but those defenses stuck people. One of the most pleasant surprises I found with Holmgren was that he understood the importance of defense from Day One, largely because of those SF defenses.

Running the ball better and more would keep the defense off the field more. But it wouldn't actually address the defense.
