The Steelers signed former Clemson quarterback and 2012 ACC Player of the Year Tajh Boyd on Friday to a one-year contract.
Boyd (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) was drafted in the sixth round in 2014 by the N.Y. Jets but was cut after the final preseason game.
Boyd went on to play for the Florida Blacktips and the Boston Brawler of the Fall Experimental Football League. Boyd completed 58 percent of his passes in five starts with the Brawlers, throwing for 713 yards and six touchdowns with one interception.
Boyd will compete with third-string quarterback Landry Jones for a roster spot. Jones, the Steelers' fourth-round pick in 2013 out of Oklahoma, has not been active for a game in two seasons. Also, backup Bruce Gradkowski is in the final year of his three-year contract he signed in 2013.
The Steelers prefer to go into spring practices and training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster.
Boyd, a three-year starter at Clemson, threw for more than 3,800 yards all three years and at least 33 touchdowns. Boyd also had 10 rushing touchdowns in each of his junior and senior years.
Boyd had a 38-10 record as a starter at Clemson.

I just found a writer who basically believes the same thing.  Landry Jones might be as good as gone.

Basically, Thompson wasted a 4th round draft pick on a QB he could have drafted in the 6th round.. OUTSTANDING!!!
