If you're wondering when the 2014 NFL schedule will be released, it looks like you can circle April 22 on your calendar. According [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], that's when the schedule will drop.
Now, if you're actually going to circle April 22 on your calendar, please make sure to do it in pencil because the date could be moved to April 23 or April 24, according to PFT. Whether the schedule is released on April 22, 23 or 24, it will be the latest date the schedule has been released in over a decade.
Since 2007, the schedule has been released sometime between April 11 and April 20.
In five of the past seven years, the schedule has been released on a Tuesday (2008-12). In the two years where the schedule wasn't released on a Tuesday, it was released on a Thursday (2013) and a Wednesday (2007).
Although the 256-game regular season schedule isn't out yet, we do know a few things. We know which [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and we know the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will be hosting the NFL opener on Sept. 4.
We also know that the 49ers [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in 2014 due to the traffic conditions around the team's new stadium during rush hour. The 49ers could still conceivably host a Thanksgiving game though as that wouldn't be affected by rush hour traffic.
It's also unlikely that the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] due to an agreement the team has with the University of Minnesota.
We don't know who the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will be playing, but if you know or you're good at guessing NFL schedules, you [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Anyway, here's what we do know:
Week 1 on Sept. 4: TBA at Seattle (Here's [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] could play)
Week 4 on Sept. 28: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in London, 1 p.m. ET
Week 8 on Oct. 26: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in London, 9:30 a.m. ET
Week 10 on Nov. 9: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in London, 1 p.m. ET
Week 13 (Thanksgiving Day): AFC at Lions, NFC at Cowboys
The Week 8 game between the Falcons and Lions will be the earliest Eastern Time Zone kickoff time in NFL history. It's also worth keeping in mind that all of the teams playing in London will have a bye the following week, meaning the Lions and Falcons will have a Week 9 bye.
We also know the 2014 opponents for all 32 NFL teams, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
We'll have to wait until April 22 to find out everything else.
To hold you over until then, here's some schedule release facts: The last time the schedule wasn't released in mid-April was in 2006, when the schedule came out on April 6. The last time the schedule was released in a month other than April was in 2002, when it was released on March 28.
