On the cusp of a playoff berth after winning five of seven games coming out of the Olympic break, the Devils are suddenly in trouble after losing games in Florida to the Panthers and Lightning over the weekend.

Probably the same net minder who slammed the door in the Islanders' face last night.

Could be--Yeo's general rule is any goaltender getting a shutout gets to start the following game.  We'll see.  I'd start Brz...  He knows how to beat the Devils, eh?   Wink

The same Bryz who got steamrolled in the last four games of the 2012 EC semifinals by the Devils? I think others would be more expert on the topic than him...

Anyway, we're done. They were hanging around and had a glorious chance to pick up ground last Friday against Florida, until they blew a 3-1 lead on the way to a 5-3 loss. They just didn't bother to show up the following night in Tampa (3-0 loss), and in their loss last night to Boston, the whole team from the head coach on down lamented a "lack of effort." They quit. Those 5 points might as well be 50.

The only surprise is that they hung around as long as they did. The facts about this team include:

* Their best player is 41.
* Their longest winning streak this season is three games. Which they accomplished exactly once.
* They have scored precisely ONE shootout goal this season in 25 attempts, which speaks to the appalling lack of skill on this team.

Part of me is hoping they just go all the way to the bottom of the tank so the new owners have to take note of what an incredibly piss poor job our dinosaur of a general manager has done since the lockout. I can't believe he actually thought he should be a buyer at the deadline this year. There needs to be top-to-bottom sweeping changes in this organization- this partying like it's 1989 shit ain't gettin' it done anymore.

Lose tomorrow night and I'd be really concerned about your team if I were you. This is as close to a free two points as you're gonna get from here on out...

Holy shit.  Really?  That just plain hurts.  All you need is a guy or two who can score a goal and you double your point total for the whole fucking game.  It's HUGE to win those shootouts...and killer not to...

Anyway--your boy Parise is getting ready to feel the love.  Watch former Buffalo Sabres Captain--Pominville out there at the other wing on the first line.  Makes 60% of what Parise does--best two way player on the team.  Love 'em!

Speaking of shutouts, Corey Crawford and the Hawks shutout the Blues last night. I was beginning to think St. Louie was unstoppable.

I wasn't able to catch the game until the start of the 2nd period, but I thought the Devils stepped up and played with the due urgency they needed to and were rewarded by coming away with the pair they had to have.  Really won the game along the walls and were the more physical team tonite.  Taking nothing way from the Devils, the Wild just didn't seem to be skating until the 3rd period.  Actually, very lucky to come out of a game like that where they were outworked--with a point.  Play that game against the Rangers next and you're right back in it, MB...

Told ya Bryz has nothing on us  Very Happy

They played well. However, I would like to see some goddamned finish from this team. Even overlooking the typically horrid play of our captain, whose defensive lapses were directly attributable for two of those goals, Schneider can't let that sharp-angle softie beat him. It's that kinda shit, you know?

I was happy they got it together and put together a strong close to the third and OT. Andy Greene is quite an underrated gem, and Elias still has it, the old goat. Adam Henrique is becoming quite the player- if he just learns to bring it night after night, he will be a perennial 30-goal, 60-point guy.

And seeing Parise at the end of the game- he seemed genuinely happy for the Devils. Can't even stay mad at the asshole... hate his guts for that  Laughing

Good luck from here on out. I think you guys need to up your game in a huge way to keep up with the strength of that conference.

And seeing Parise at the end of the game- he seemed genuinely happy for the Devils. Can't even stay mad at the asshole... hate his guts for that  Laughing

Good luck from here on out. I think you guys need to up your game in a huge way to keep up with the strength of that conference.
Thanks.  Yeah--they're still a couple of pieces away.  Koivu needs to be traded and the *C* belongs with Pominville.  They'll be flush with cap room after the Dany Heatley contact is purged at season's end and every report is that Vanek already has the framework of a deal in place to come to Minnesota this summer...and Moulson may find a home with the Wild as well.  They need goal scorers and another right-handed point man.  This team is pretty well set up for the future with a solid GM in Fletcher and a young coach in Yeo I've been very impressed with--more by what he brings in his darkest hour--but you're right, the West is a bitch...

Hard to believe but the Bruins have won 10 in a row. They seem headed for another Cup final.

I would be shocked if another team won the east. They are head and shoulders better than the rest of the conference.

Agreed!

Nash had a great game last night, I am hoping it continues for him.  Rangers really need to pick it up!

That makes 11 in a row. Winning in Colorado is difficult with the altitude when you only go there once a year.

Saw the Flyers a couple of times this week. 5 wins in 8 days. Their motor is going full speed. Took down the Blues today. Mason looks tough. Could make a huge difference in the playoffs.

The Rangers really did a nice job over the back half of the season.  I think the trading deadline activity may have woken some people up there and AV seems to have done a nice job of pulling that team together in his first year...but hey comin' off of Torts--most anyone is a pretty good comparison, eh?   Wink

Now the challenge to see if anyone in the East ( or for that matter the West ) can outlast the Bruins this playoff. They seem almost unstoppable.

Yeah?  Somebody forgot to get the Wild the memo tonight...  Outplayed the big, big Bruins throughout the game...  Real pleasure watching Julien's red-assed beet burnin' a double-triple on his blood pressure in OT launching into a tirade on his Captain--Chara, for getting knocked on his ass by Nino...   Twisted Evil

Peakin' at the right time, bitchezzzzz--as the two best in the East--Pens and Bruins, go down in flames to the Wild...  Blues up next.

Great energy by the Wild last night. They know how to play the Bruins. Be physical in the corners and in front of the net. 5 penalties by the Wild last night. Uncharacteristic but it sent a message to the Bees that they won't get pushed around. Great goal tending in the Shootout.

Pominville is money...and it's made a difference not having players like Rupp, Stoner and, I hate to say--Heatley on the ice.  Sign Moulson and Bryz, score Vanek this summer and pick up a legit top 4 righty on the blue line and this team moves to a legit threat to play with the big boys and take it all next season and beyond...

Unfortunately--not gonna happen, Milani.  Yeo has made the wrong call and has decided to put a bullet into the mo they have generated over the past two weeks and start a goalie has hasn't played an NHL game since 2010 and is dressing Rupp, Heatley, etc...  He's basically tanking this game because he is afraid of playing the Blues in the first round of the playoffs.  Very, very inastute move that reflects that the Wild are still a ways away from their destination...

About as insane as when we beat Dallas last year. Outshot 45-15 and you win 4-2. Could be some crazy playoffs this year. Colorado breathing down the Blues' neck.
