Simple made easy
While the draft board does adjust through the NFL scouting combine and pro days, the Packers typically stick to the game tape above all else. What the prospect did on Saturdays - not necessarily at Lucas Oil Stadium - is valued first and foremost.
"I think they're important," Thompson said of pre-draft workouts. "There are people who certainly test better who quote-unquote 'improve their stock' with the pro days and in Indianapolis. And there are other times when guys don't test very well and lower their value. At the end of the day, does it decide who can play in the NFL? No, it doesn't. But you like to see numbers and statistics athletically that equate to guys that have done it on a high level in the NFL. So that's what you're looking for in all that."
There you have it. Probably the single most defining reason that TT, on balance, finds success in the draft where other's fail...and, as usual, it is so, so simple...
If you're a looking for the very best winemaker, for example--should you focus on he/she who is the very most effective in crushing the grapes and extracting the juice? Maybe the one who is best at cultivating the fields and nurturing the vines? Hmmmm...I know--score the person who produces the best yield of premium grapes/plant or maybe the one whose fruit seems to have the most brilliant size/color! Yeah-yeah--that'll make the best wine, fo-sho!
Fuck no... If you want to find the best winemaker--drink the fucking wine, eh? All that other shit is just dandy--but until the juice hits your tongue--how do you really know for sure how tasty it is?
Too bad Mike Sherman never seemed to ramp to this very simple concept as he walked around with a chubby in his cargo-assed khaki's over the workout warriors and the others who could run fast and jump high to the exclusion of others who just knew how to play fucking football. Duh. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sherman did not like wine. He stuck with whole milk.
