The Steelers today signed cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke, released this week by the Oakland Raiders.

Van Dyke was Oakland's third-round draft choice last season and he started four of the 14 games he played for them as a rookie.

The team will have to remove someone from the roster in order to make room for Van Dyke. They could possibly place rookie guard David DeCastro on the eight-week injured reserve to create a spot.

Van Dyke, 23, played at the University of Miami.

I'd be surprised if Van Dyke ever pans out. He's not strong enough, or smart enough, to be a solid NFL DB. Sure, it's worth the shot they took, considering he's a fast and tall as Ike, but what Ike had going for him was an incredible work ethic, toughness and strength. This guy doesn't really have that package. He doesn't even tackle well enough to use that speed to be a force on special teams as he learns as a corner.

God, your replies are just too stupid...Deon was a once in a lifetime prospect. Van Dyke never was even an elite cover guy in college, while Deon dominated everyone he went up against at that level, including the consensus top receiver in the nation at that time...Michael Irvin.

The guy was drafted in the third round, and only because he ran a 4.28 forty and the Raiders were on the clock. I'm not saying he has no shot, but he is a big project, to say the least.
