After leading the league in rushing yards and attempts, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is intent on receiving a new contract.

Despite having two years remaining on his deal, the All-Pro back held out of voluntary offseason workouts and training camp in hopes of receiving a new deal.

Instead of granting Jones-Drew’s wish for a new deal, owner Shad Khan struck down the seven-year veteran’s request viciously.

"Train is leaving the station," Khan [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Tuesday. "Run, get on it."

Earlier in the week, Khan [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] “He’s not here, and that’s his decision.”

"Believe me, it's not a great concern," the owner continued.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from Jones-Drew’s camp have noted that the Pro Bowl back believes since the “owner really isn’t concerned with him, then he should trade him to someone who will be.”

But according to a separate [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from CBS Sports, the Jaguars have no plan to trade the 5'7", 210-pound back. Things obviously could change if teams in need for an explosive, game-changing back get involved though.

The New York Jets are one team that fits that bill. With Shonn Greene underperforming, Mark Sanchez under fire and the New York media a firestorm, something must change.

Sending Tim Tebow back home along with a draft pick or two would surely be enough to bring MJD into Jets green.

Another notable AFC powerhouse in need of a running back is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are dealing with a plethora of injuries among their platoon.

It’s unclear what the Steelers could offer up, but if they could somehow talk Mike Wallace into a deal sending him to Jacksonville or trade a package of draft picks to the Jaguars, they would instantly become legitimate contenders– if they weren’t considered so already.

If Jacksonville does send MJD elsewhere, they have a very suitable backup plan in Rashad Jennings, who is showing this preseason that he can be the every-down back.

In two games thus far, Jennings rushed 23 times for 118 yards, good for 5.1 yards per carry. He did however miss all of last season with a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that did not require surgery.

But regardless of what happens, the Jaguars surely have a suitable starting running back– whether it be Jones-Drew or Jennings.

It would make alot of sense if the receiving corp was hitting on all cylinders. I just read where Andrea Hangst just reported that Tomlin said the younger receivers hasn't stepped up as of yet. So yes, they need Wallace because of what was reported. No trade bait
