Will Best Play Again?
My guess is Best never plays another down of football again. Everything I've seen and read points to him and his family with their cloud of specialists will prevent him from ever being allowed physical contact on the gridiron. I think the Lions are playing this out to avoid an acceleration of his signing bonus and salary because of the cap hit. Best will get an injury settlement from the Lions. I hope the Lions had an insurance policy on him, although who would insure an NFL RB, and if they did what would the premium cost? Anyway, stick a fork in him, bad draft move Maywartz, move on.

I agree. We will not be able to depend on Best even if he is allowed to play. Leshoure ( dumb, doper, gimp) is another huge question mark in my opinion. I really like Kevin Smith and his work ethic, along with his leadership ability, but he hasn't proven to be durable either. Kevin's game against Carolina last season was a breath of fresh air but was short lived with his ankle sprain that really hindered him the rest of the season. It looks like we are going to be really thin at the RB position yet again this season. The Lions will probably pick up a couple second shelf RB's on the waiver wire. It's not looking good.

Yet Broyles will watch for most of the season while there is no letdown at WR with all the candidates we have to catch the ball. This is a PERFECT example of how the "they know better" isn't always a good argument. WE all saw going into the year that there were question marks at RB. WE all knew that Best wasn't cleared for contact at anytime during the offseason, Leshoure had not proven that he was physically ready to play and by draft WE knew that he had two busts. And WE knew that for as hard as Smith works and as great a guy he is, he gets hurt very often, never playing a full 16 game since his first year in 2008. So if WE new all of that, why didn't Mayhew know that? Answer, he did but he puts far too much emphasis on WRs and as such went out and got yet another in the second round with guys like LeMichael James still on the board.
