The Cleveland Browns claimed wide receiver Rodney Smith off of waivers according to the team's official website.
The Minnesota Vikings waived the 24-year-old Smith on Thursday to add quarterback Chandler Harnish to back up Christian Ponder with Teddy Bridgewater out with an ankle injury.  Smith played his college ball at Florida State and has appeared in five regular season NFL games over the past two seasons, all with Minnesota.  He played on three snaps in the Vikings win over the St. Louis Rams to open the season.  The 6'5", 220-pounder provides a big target but has been used primarily on special teams in the NFL.
To make room on the roster for Smith, the Browns waived wide receiver LaRon Byrd.

They need some big time size on the outside, now lets see if he can contribute in the red zone.
