Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has reportedly been indicted for child abuse.
Peterson has been charged in suburban Houston with reckless or negligent injury to a child, according to local television station [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
The Pro Bowl tailback has retained attorney Rusty Hardin, who was made famous for representing seven-time Cy Young Award winning pitcher Roger Clemens in a perjury trial.
Hardin declined comment when reached by the station.
Details surrounding evidence that led to the indictment and Peterson's whereabouts are not known at this time.
Officials have declined to comment further on the case while they wait for Peterson to turn himself in. His playing status for this weekend is unclear.
AOL News was unable to reach either Peterson or a Vikings team representative for further comment.
The charges come one year after a child fathered by Peterson in North Dakota was beaten to death by the mother's boyfriend. The boy was only two-years-old.

Re: Adrian Peterson indicted on child abuse charges
I was one of the very few in here who suggested a couple years ago that the Vikings dangle Peterson out there for a possible blockbuster trade. Mind you, the Vikings were floundering with Ponder at qb and it was obvious we were at least a few years away from being viable again. So a Peterson trade may have been the launching point for the Vikings to get real serious about making this team a contender again with draft picks and solid trade acquisitions.
Don't get me wrong I really like AD's commitment to excellence (as far as being a warrior). He has the will and desire to be the best, but unfortunately for him, this era on Viking football probably will not be putting a ring of his finger anytime soon. So it would have benefited him and the Vikings if they parted on win/win terms. Hopefully, now that we have him locked up in Minn, Zimmer can finally get him closer to that ring...before it's really too late.
I sure hope he rebounds from this unfortunate circumstance and uses it to propel his determination stronger than ever when he returns.

WOW, lots of negative on AP/owners/Spielman.
I think this "child abuse" is a bunch of bullshit. Little doubt he took a switch to his son and that may be a bit overboard but when I was raised I got spanked on the butt, I spanked my kids on the butt and I turned out OK as did my boys. It's something called DISCIPLINE which is sorely lacking in our schools and at home. The PC crowd can frankly kiss my ass on this issue.
I don't condone beating kids, not for a minute!! However, I don't think spanking is an issue at all. And it appears to be a regional thing. Saw Charles Barkley on TV and he commented on using of a "switch" as usual discipline in "the south".
I wouldn't do it but if you got that type of discipline as a kid I don't think it is much different than a butt whooping. It's not like a slap/punch in the face which i consider abuse but rather a pain inflicted to tell you that you did wrong.
I love AP and I think the Vikes did right by bringing him back and I can say with confidence that if this was another player in the NFL I would say the same thing.
Flame away PC crowd!

Excellent post Gbj......my sentiments exactly. Almost made a spiel of my own but figured the anti-Viking crowd and lynch mob mentality would be all in our faces here. Thanks for saying....Gbjerke wrote:WOW, lots of negative on AP/owners/Spielman.
