They are who we thought they were Empty They are who we thought they were

At least I thought they were. This team is flawed in the wrong places to the point they can't consistently win. It was has only been built half right and as such they compete but will never be a team that can close it out when they need to. Most good teams build both lines. Mayhew has built one to be pretty good (DL) while the other isn't so good (OL). Then they move out. The LBs, while better, are still no better than average after four years. The running game is also better but can't execute consistently and often can't execute when critically needed. The defensive backfield is very weak and the passing game has Stafford and CJ and even with all the resource spent, not enough other than those two. They put up the yards mostly because of CJ and can score at times but underperforms too often.

Then we get to the coaching staff. Schwartz has yet to get this team to play disciplined football. Besides the off-field issues, the stupid stuff from lack of focus gets so frustrating. His time management leaves a lot to be desired but his biggest shortfall is that he has grabbed three mediocre coordinators and keeps them for the sake of consistency. Linehan is one of the most predictable play callers in the game and really lacks imagination. Cunningham is so much more bark than bite. These guys can't step up when it couts to save their lives. In other words...Cunningham is not a DC that gets the best out of his team when most needed.

During yesterday's game I was especially disappointed in Young's performance. Wow...it's one thing to be virtually invisible but to be a liability is a killer. Given Stafford's off game we needed a WR to step up. Scheffler was a close second on that regard. Other disappointments, the OL was horrible and Linehan for going completely conservative during the last FG drive when it was 1st and goal. If it weren't for some really tough running by Leshoure and another really good game by CJ the offense would've been non-existent.

Further disappointed in Levy who fell back, Durant who continues to blow three plays for every one he makes, the safeties who stunk out loud, Lacey who continues to prove he is nearly worthless, and Cunningham for going into a prevent after the Lions went up by 6. The DL was playing really well then he backs off to a passive rush and a zone coverage.

The turning point of the game came with the stupid running play on 2nd and goal from the 7 when up by 3. The change in momeentum could've been stemmed after the FG if Cunningham keeps the pressure on and the defense executed.

This team is a soft team when the chips are on the line. Underachievers everywhere on a team that isn't built to survive underachievers. We are a 4 win team and Sunday showed why.
