Because he cites Pop Warner football policy?

Exactly.
He applies Pop Warner football policy to overpaid professionals, some of whom are superstars who for their whole lives have had everyone around them telling them they are the second coming. Yet he gives them nothing in the present for what they may have done in the past.
Not only that general application of Pop Warner policy across the board, but here in this specific case the "starter" happens to be a 15 year veteran widely considered among people possessing high levels of intelligence to be the greatest quarterback of all time (opinion), and just by the numbers alone, the most accomplished post-season quarterback of all time (fact). Yet, for him that is all in the past. "We're on to 2015." And starting anew in 2015, "there are no starters just a team." "You want to start? Prove it to me and earn the job --- in the present." You don't see that everywhere, but that's just how he is. Your past performance does not necessarily guarantee your present job security. Just ask Drew Bledsoe.

So if Garoppalo outplays Brady in camp, he'll start.
You're embarrassing yourself.

"Just a team" Not just lip service.
You're embarrassing yourself.
Couple of words:
Richard Seymour
Lawyer Milloy
Drew Bledsoe
Logan Mankins
Vince Wilfork
Willie McGuinist
Ty Law
Adam Vinatieri
Past performance does not insure present job security. I know to you "outsiders" it seem ruthless. However, "It is what it is." "All we're doing is trying to get better." "We've got a long way to go." "We just want everybody to do their job." LOL.

I have to ask- if this assessment of the best player plays... and Garoppalo stays as QB..... them Tom isn't as Terrific as guppy claimed?? That would actually be interesting. If the Patriots win the first four games and Garoppalo looks good, what happens when Brady comes back? We saw what happened in 2001 when the Pats kinda scuffled along and Brady looked inconsistent when Bledsoe was out so it could be a money/mouth moment for BB.

Don't you guys see when I'm having a little fun with y'all? LOL.
All I have to do is say the words "Belichick" or "Brady", without saying anything more, and I can make smoke come out of your ears.
I can't even explain to you how much fun that is.
Drama, drama, drama. We live for it.
Under Belichick, no favorites. It is what it is.

Yea it is, but it's still interesting. The Pats beat Dallas to go 4-0 and Jimmy Ballgame passes for 400 and 4 TDs. Player of the month in September for the 3-0 record and the 12 TDs.
Does Tommy get any snaps the week before the Indy game?
It'd be walk vs talk time for BB.
The thing I'd be most interested to see is whether Brady would cry if he's benched.

"Jimmy Ballgame", I like that. Can I use it? I'll give you all the credit.
To your original question:
"The decisions I make is whatever is in the best interests of the team. That's what Mr. Kraft is paying me to do, and that's what I'm going to do." - BB.
Do we really need to explain it more than that?

If there was no salary cap in 2002 and beyond, what would BB rather have,
Tom Brady/Drew Bledsoe
Tom Brady/Rohan Davey
C'mon.

Feel free. I like him. I saw him on TV in a preseason game last year and he looked good.
Not so much in camp this year from what I've read.

Inconsistent. Up and down. Different type than Brady. Looks like the same height as Brees to me. Not saying he's going to be Brees, just that they look about the same height. Which means more mobility than Brady, which means it falls upon coaching to design an offense that fits to the particular player's strength, which means if Jimmy Ballgame is in there, maybe the receivers will have an extra second of two to get open, and Jimmy won't have to get rid of the ball as quickly as Brady does, which means different routes. Maybe.

Do you think that BB cares what anybody thinks? Ever?
A quarterback controversy in the future?
Reporter: "Coach, why did you decide to start Jimmy over Tom?"
BB: "We just do what's best for the team, that's all."
You can't see that happening at some point?
I agree it would take more than good and bad performances in training camp. It will have evolve over the course of a season or two. But still, the Pop Warner sentiment of "We have no backups or starters, only a team" being applied to professionals is a good one. It works. But not everybody can make it work. It has to be the right person - one who rarely smiles, does not give a shit, and looks at players as so many replaceable parts.
