I like Vince. At first I didn't. He had some of that UMiami cheap-shot punkish attitude about him. He got over it.

Great player and by all accounts a good man. I'm a fan and I hope Lady B (The Wilfork family pants wearer Wink ) lets him take a min contract so he can finish where he started.

I was going to say the highlight film was nice, but dated. There's nothing newer that I saw than the butt fumble. Which was a few years ago. Which was well after Vince was a true highlight reel player.
I'll also say don't ever search "Butt fumble" on Yahoo video.
Just don't.

He should make the most money he can, wherever that may be.  Take care of yourself and your family Vince.

Indy is learning from NE.  Letting Wayne go is kind of similar decision to NE letting Vince go.

A GM has got to do what's necessary, even if its "cold-hearted".  Everyone (well, pretty much everyone) was calling out BB, first for letting Wes Welker go, and then for letting Logan Mankins go.  Everyone said he was crazy.  How did all that work out?  Who was right, BB or "everyone else"?

I think the Pats will end up paying top of the market dollar to lock up Revis, and it would not be unprecedented.  They did it for Ty Law with his last big contract.  Law got most of that money, and was not released until the end of the contract.  But that's the way these things work in the NFL and its the reality of the business.

However, if Revis hits the free agent market, it might be a problem for the Patriots if Woody Johnson goes absolutely nuts and breaks the bank for him in order to make a big splash in a move to reinvigorate the Jets fanbase.

All in all, right now is a very good time to be Darrelle Revis.

Or he could stay around just to help Tom Brady with his plank exercises.

Ya it would. They've never set the market. Well once. Bledsoe.

They did it for Ty Law with his last big contract.

That was with a different "GM", and it wasn't the biggest CB contract in the league. Sanders made more. A lot more.

Law got most of that money, and was not released until the end of the contract.

Law was cut with 12.5 of 50 mil left on his contract.
They didn't have another corner close to his caliber for ten seasons.
Drafted a bunch. Signed even more.
They finally found one.

And he's a rental.
Genius.

Not to quibble, but it was seven years, 51 mil, and they released him after 6 years.  Even though he was pissed, my point is, he did alright financially.  When the Patriots declined to extend him, he flipped out.  He said to Kraft in the hallway,  "You guys are out of your mind!" Law yelled. "Don't you know who I am! I'm Ty (expletive) Law! Ty (expletive) Law!"  Just an emotional guy.....especially about money.

And with the passage of time I'd say he got over being mad at the Patriots, and now says it was just "business".  He is here in town.  He owns businesses and has business interests here.  His job is a regular TV commentator on Comcast along with Troy Brown, and he's in the public eye constantly during the season.  He dances with Bob Kraft at his HOF ceremony and wears his red jacket proudly.  He was very much against the idea of a restructure, ie., a "pay cut", but the relationship between him and the Patriots by all appearances is all good now.   By making the tough decision to release him before the final year of his contract they saved 9 mil in salary and bonuses.  12.5 mil. was the cap hit saved.  From the team's perspective it was something that had to be done.  So he was mad?  Big f*ing deal.  That's life.

They didn't have another corner close to his caliber for ten seasons.

Is that some kind of criticism?  They didn't have another corner close to his caliber for ten seasons because there weren't any available corners close to his caliber for ten seasons.

And he's a rental.

Revis is a rental?  You know something the rest of the world doesn't?  You must be close with that great ESPN breaker of stories Chris Mortensen.  For the rest of the world -- me included -- unfortunately, we have to wait until at least Tuesday until we know one way or the other whether Revis stays in NE, or goes.

And you say "rental" like the very idea of it was a dumb thing or bad thing.  I'll bet there are at least two dozen or more teams in the NFL that would absolutely jump at the chance to do some kind of one year "rental" of a key player, if it got them just one Lombardi.  Faced with that proposition 90% of teams would say, "One year rental of a really good, but really expensive player?  And as part of the deal we get a Lombardi?  OK, where do I sign?"

Genius.

Ya, I agree.
Law broke his foot in Oct of the '04 season running on that crappy uneven grass field at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.  He then missed the last 12 games of the season.  But the "genius" head coach seemed to survive, and actually do OK without Ty, since the Pats won 11 of those 12 games.  Second year corner and 4th round draft pick Asante Samuel stepped up and filled that role quite nicely.  And, oh ya, they won the Superbowl too.

"Genius"?  Ya, I'd say that's fair.

Look, I don't know what's going to happen with Revis.  But the Patriots just won the Superbowl (again).  They won it with a 6th round pick (Brady) throwing passes to a 7th round pick who was not even drafted as a receiver (Edelman), aided by the help of a defensive game saving play made by a player no one drafted (Butler).    "Genius"?   What else could it be?

The releases of former favorite sons Wes Welker and Logan Mankins looked bad at the time they happened, but over time now look like they were absolutely the right moves.  Despite 100% of Patriots Nation wanting Darrelle Revis back basically at any cost, at the same time, can you blame those same fans for being optimistic about whatever decision is made regarding Revis and saying, "In Bill We Trust"?   With so much success you tend to get spoiled.  After a while you just say, "Hey, whatever they decide to do is OK with me."  Its only human.
