The Colts top 4 receivers Reggie Wayne, Hakeen Nicks, T.Y. Hilton, and Donte Moncrief COMBINED for 2 catches for 51 yards.......with Andrew Luck throwing the ball.  And 36 yards of that was T.Y.'s sensational sideline catch.

Mind blowing.

The Pats have pretty much mastered the Conference Champion celebration, haven't they? Good for them.

Doesn't look like you could get much zip on your passes with that ball.

And if you were trying to fair catch a punt, it probably wouldn't bounce off your face mask into the arms of an opposing player either.

Nobody outside 495 is surprised, nobody inside 495 thinks anything of it. Admit Gup. If it's true they were messing with the balls, you just don't care.

That makes it worse. He knew they could kick the crap out of the Colts. Why cheat? Is it that ingrained? That much a part of their system that they do it even when they don't need to?

The refs handle the balls on every play.  They get the balls from the receivers after a catch.  They put the balls down for the center before he snaps it.  They handle the balls when there is a measurement for a first down.  They handle the balls constantly, every play.  These are the same refs that inspect the balls pregame.  How come when they handle them all during the game, they didn't say to themselves, "Hey this ball doesn't feel right.  It feels kind of soft.  It doesn't feel the same as when I inspected it before the game."   How come that didn't happen?

Just sour grapes.  Really makes the Colts look bad, complaining about the "feel" of a ball instead of asking themselves why they couldn't cover and couldn't tackle.  Sounds like the Ravens' Harbaugh complaining about legal but "deceptive" plays.  LMAO.  You mean like Seattle pulled off that "deceptive" fake FG, and then the kicker threw for a TD?  I guess when other teams use "deception", its a great play, but when the Pats use it, its somehow "unsporting", as that idiot IndyStar reporter Gregg Doyel called it.  That guy is a complete clown (flashed the middle finger when being interviewed on Boston TV).  Ray Lewis is another one.  "Without the Tuck Rule we wouldn't know who Tom Brady is."  LOL.  Really Ray?  You just made a fool of yourself.  As Pats we are used to this nonsensical noise.  Best thing to do is just ignore it.  These complaints by Harbaugh and Lewis, and others, are embarrassing on their own.  There is no need to refute claims like these that speak for themselves and are moronic on their face.

And I was not aware that the league came out with any findings and conclusions yet about the inflation pressure of the ball.  I must have missed that part where they said what they found.  But I'm like that.  I want the facts and evidence, not unsubstantiated claims, before I pass judgment.  That's just me though.  Its that whole American system of "innocent until proven guilty" thing.  I kind of believe in that old fashioned principle.

I also think this about the physics involved regarding ball pressure.  If a ball is soft, the qb cannot put as much zip on on his throw as he could if it was under more pressure and was more firm.  A soft football with too much "give" when his hand squeezes it will not roll and spin off his fingertips with the same control and force when he throws it.  He would have less control, not more.  It would be like a baseball pitcher trying to throw a squishy baseball.  No good.  Too soft is not a good thing.  Its actually a bad thing.  A qb needs a properly firm ball that he can fire with velocity.  League rules say the ball must be between 12.5 amd 13.5 lbs of pressure.  They also inspect them an mark them as inspected before the game.  Once inspected they remain as they are.  The only thing that could happen is that a ball boy puts a needle in to let some air out that would put the pressure significantly below 12.5 lbs.  Until proof that something like that actually really happened comes out, I'll reserve judgment, thank you.

Until shown otherwise, the present state of the matter is that it is a ridiculous claim, totally lacking in proof, and not does not even rise to the level that it should be given the dignity of a response.

However, what would not surprise me is if the Colts kept one of the Patriots game balls and turned it in to the league, but before doing so, secretly stuck a needle in and let a bunch of air out in order to perpetrate a fraud on the league and on the Patriots and get them in trouble on false evidence by giving the league a ball that the Colts themselves secretly doctored.  Remember, this is the same franchise that piped in artificial crowd noise to their stadium when the Patriots had the ball on offense to try (unsuccessfully) to disrupt them.  So, given that shady history of this particular organization, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I must caution you.... using common sense and intelligent fact is not appreciated in society today. There just HAS to be some henious reason the Colts lost so badly.... it could NOT be they were beaten by a better team that day..... No fuckin way.... there HAS to be a reason...I demand someone look into something to make me feel better about what happened that I didn't like..... that is all...... carry on!

You have "proof" of the "fact" that the Colts piped in crowd noise do you? Or that the Colts doctored the ball? Or the several that were taken from the Partiots bench?
After all, you're all about "facts and evidence" right?
C'mon Gup. Nothing's been proven yet. You don't have to be in the "Oh yea? Well what about when so and so did such and such?" phase of your instinctive defense of your sociopathic coaches scuzzy behavior.
Right now it should be "Who broke the story? Oh him! He's a well known liar and Patriots hater."

I actually heard a caller on WEEI say that this morning.
If not the Colts, then some mole from the Seahawks hoping to get BB suspended for the Super Bowl.
Or Borges.

Yes, I'm just saying some people would believe it. And worse. Some of the things people were saying was bizarre. The balls were waterlogged, that's why they were light. Huh?
It was the cold. It was 50 degrees. Just crazy. If they did it they did it. Live with it. Take the fine, give up the pick, get used to yet another "Patriots rule".
On to Seattle.

People calling in to sports radio talking air pressure, science and physics which involve human variables?  This is what we've come to now?

I don't know if you remember a long time ago Boston City Councillor Albert "Dapper" O'Neil, who was quite a colorful and outspoken politician?  He had expression he would often use when commenting on some crazy issue, and his often used expression comes to my mind here.

"Makes ya sick."

I'm sure he'll do what he considers appropriate.  He has to, especially after messing up the Ray Rice thing.

11 balls were found to be underinflated by 2 psi.  Is not the appropriate next question: How did it happen?  I would prefer to wait for the answer.  Maybe you would too.  Or maybe whatever the answer may be does not matter to you.  Whatever.  Well, I'm patient, and I want the answer.  So I'll wait.

By the way, the balls were tested at half time when they were found to be underinflated (D. Jackson's interception occurred with 9:21 left in the first half.  The officials looked at that ball and that started the whole thing and prompted the testing at half time.)  The score was 17-7 to start the 3rd quarter.   And that's when play was held up at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to change the ball that was on the field.  We all saw that on TV with play being held up while the ball was changed for a different one.   So that is the time when the problem was corrected, and the ball with presumably 10.5 psi (2 psi under regulation) was taken out of play and replaced with a ball with at least 12.5 psi (regulation).  Now from that point on in the game - the entire second half - using appropriately inflated balls with the required minimum pressure of at least 12.5 psi - the correct inflation pressure - the Patriots outscored the Colts 28-0.

Now I do realize that everyone on the planet agrees that balls underinflated by 2 psi that were used only in the first half had absolutely ZERO impact on the outcome of that game.  I merely thought it was good information to point out the second half being 28-0 after the problem was corrected.

Once the league's findings and conclusions come out, and lets say some deliberateness is found, I will be happy to discuss with you what the appropriate punishment should be, and whether the action that the league takes is soft, harsh, or just right.

That discussion will necessarily include:

- who is guilty of what precisely?
- was there actual intent?  In other words, was there a negligent indifference or ignorance to the rules, or was it worse, ie, was there a real consciousness of guilt?
- was the violation found more in the nature of a "misdemeanor", or more in the nature of a "felony"?  Opinions can differ, but after all, we are talking about being short 2 lbs of air pressure here.
- taking all relevant factors into account, what sanction(s) is(are) appropriate?  Again, opinions can differ.  What some might consider a harsh sentence, others might think is measured and appropriate.

Will be happy to have a discussion along these lines.

Bottom line, there should be accountability.  Of course there should be.  However, the punishment must fit the crime.  So before we impose the sentence, we have to fully understand the crime.

Fair?

Just my opinion, but the outcome of the game has nothing to do with this. Thet could have lost 45-7 and it wouldn't matter.
You point a gun at somebody and pull the trigger its the same crime whether you paralyze them or miss completely. Its the intent, not the result.

It will never be just right. I've spent seven years defending the Patriots against haters, reasonable and crazy, and I thought if they could finally win one post spygate it would put most of them to rest.
It'll never end and I don't blame them. This is BBs fault. He gave up his right to a benefit of the doubt.
If you get caught doing something you should try to be extra clean from then on, not try to see what other rules you can skirt.
