According to a complaint filed by police, who said Wednesday that they have referred the case to county prosecutors for review, Ravens running back Ray Rice knocked his fiancee unconscious in an altercation at an Atlantic City casino over the weekend, Justin Fenton of the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] reports.

The revelation came as a video clip showing the aftermath of the incident was posted online. The 50-second video,[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], shows Rice lifting fiancee Janay Palmer by her arms out of an elevator in the Revel Casino and laying her on the ground. She appears limp as he pulls her legs away from the elevator's doors and props her up.

Contacted about the allegations in the summons, Rice's Philadelphia-based attorney, Michael Diamondstein, declined to comment.

In the long run, nothing's going to happen to him over this incident, which is a shame. No one has the right to lay hands on another, especially to the extent that it renders the victim unconscious. I've never been a believer in the idea that having a talent for any sport means the athlete must be a perfect 'hero' in their personal life, but they should have to answer for their actions off the field.

"Rice has applied for a Pretrial Intervention Program. It allows first-time offenders to have charges against them dismissed after participating and meeting certain conditions. The county prosecutor will decide whether Rice is allowed to enter the program.

"If PTI is successfully completed, there is no record of conviction and he would avoid the stigma of a criminal record."

His stupid attempt at apologizing was the worst PR fiasco I have ever seen. "Failure is not getting knocked down, it’s not getting up.” That's probably why Ray didn't apologize to his wife: she failed him by forcing him to drag her ass out of the elevator after she failed to get up. Shame on her. No wonder she felt obligated to say she was sorry.

I don't believe in the whole 'sports athletes are role models' idea. All they're paid to do is perform on the field, and what happens in their personal life is their business. If a child wants to worship a famous sports figure, then the focus should be on their athletic ability, period. I can't imagine any parent allowing their child to believe that it's okay to hit someone just because Rice did it.

Ray Rice was an asshole when he hit his girl, not a superstar or a hero. All he proved yesterday is that he's not only an asshole, but he's an ignorant one at that.

This is NOT to condone what Rice did- more to address the media in general. The guy is a paid football player.... I mean it ain't like we should expect a polished, intelligent humanitarian here.... he is paid to play a violent sport at a high level. It amazes me when people expect them to be something they aren't. I too am appalled at what he did...... just not surprised. These young men are not taught anything from mid high school on. They are pushed through a system that rewards & protects them from the realities of life.- simply because they can run, jump & throw a ball better than other humans. Other humans who happen to have a much higher skill set in the "other" behaviors of life.

The judge asked the fiancée what was the first thing she was going to do if she went back to Ray? Rice jumped up and yelled, "the dishes, if she knows what's good for her."   LOL

Exactly. I'll still cheer him on if he gets back on the field with the Ravens, but he'll always be a lowlife off the field, in my mind. What really got me was that he couldn't be bothered to marry his 'baby mama' until she was his victim, and witness to his crime. Instead of a beautiful wedding with a wedding gown, flowers, music, guests and toasts, she's left with the memory of a rushed civil ceremony the day after he punches her into a stupor. Rice probably thought she couldn't testify against him as his wife. This guy is in desperate need of a new PR man.
